We are excited to be celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2024, with activities and celebrations planned throughout the year, as we look back on four decades of St Michael’s Hospice.
40 years of St Michael's Hospice
The year 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of St Michael’s Hospice. It’s a special opportunity to celebrate the expert care that we have provided to the Herefordshire community over four decades. From small beginnings in 1984, the hospice has blossomed into an esteemed and well-respected organisation, now caring for more than 2,000 people with life-limiting illnesses across Herefordshire each year.

A big thank you to you!
“Our anniversary holds a special place in our hearts as we reflect on the journey we’ve shared with our community. We’re deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our past and present supporters, dedicated staff, and volunteers who have made our achievements possible. Over the past 40 years, we’ve touched the lives of tens of thousands of individuals, all thanks to the remarkable backing of our local community.
As we pause to commemorate our history, we’re filled with a sense of wonder at how much we’ve grown as a hospice. Looking ahead, we’re fuelled by a renewed sense of purpose, optimism, and commitment to expanding and improving our services. Our mission remains steadfast: to adapt and meet the evolving needs of our community for many more years to come.”

Fabulous fundraisers
St Michael’s Hospice traces its origins to visionary fundraisers whose dedication ignited its inception. Year after year, it’s the relentless commitment of our fundraisers that sustains us. As we mark our 40th milestone, we reflect with profound gratitude on the extraordinary efforts and astounding accomplishments of these individuals. They have been the driving force behind the hospice’s growth and triumphs, ensuring its enduring presence and impact in our community.

A tribute to our volunteers
Over the past 40 years, St Michael’s care has only been possible thanks to the incredible hard work, support and commitment of hundreds of volunteers, who have generously given their time and expertise in wide-ranging roles across the hospice – such as volunteering in our shops and cafes, supporting patients in the Inpatient Unit and in the community, helping out at fundraising events and activities, tending to the hospice gardens and volunteering in the hospice’s offices. They are such a big part of our continued success.

Our wonderful staff
With over 200 staff, there are simply too many incredible individuals to mention! But it goes without saying, that our Hospice is only as good at the people within it, and we are incredibly lucky to have a team of caring, compassionate people who truly believe that everyone should have access to the best possible care towards the end of their life. We can’t thank them all enough.
