VOLUNTEER WITH ST MICHAEL’S

Your help helps

Volunteers are vital in enabling St Michael’s Hospice to deliver quality care to patients and their families. Each week, hundreds of people give a few hours or more. Some people volunteer for one-off events and others do regular shifts. Most, if not all, tell us that the opportunity to meet and support people from all walks of life is a humbling and inspiring experience.

Where could you volunteer?

We have so many ways in which you can support us, there are too many to list!
So, here are some of the areas which you could volunteer in.

In our Shops

From greeting customers to pricing items and so much more, we have perfect role for you.

At the Hospice

There are lots of ways you can support within the Hospice, whether on Reception or making hot drinks for patients, there’s a role for you.

In the Gardens

Our team of gardening volunteers make our award-winning gardens burst into colour providing smiles all year rounds. If you’re green-fingered, this is the role for you.

In the Community

You could help us by being a community engagement volunteer, helping to get your local residents and businesses excited about supporting us.

At an Event

Stewards and helpers at our events are vital to our success! If you want to be a ‘part of the hype’ come and volunteer at one of our events.

On the Road

You could help us by driving our Mobile Hospice Support Vehicle to community events, or by offering transport to patients and families.

Volunteer in the Hospice

Volunteers are the heartbeat of St Michael’s. Whether contributing within our hospice or off-site, there’s a role for everyone, from those handling dishes to those planting in our gardens.

Whether you opt for administrative support or lend a hand in our gardens and kitchen, your time will positively impact local individuals and their families coping with a terminal illness.

We offer a comprehensive induction and continuous training, ensuring you feel well-prepared and confident to flourish in your volunteer role.

Why should I volunteer?

Volunteers play a crucial role in the operations of St Michael’s, and our work simply wouldn’t be possible without them. 75% of our workforce is voluntary, making our volunteers the core of St Michael’s Hospice.

Embark on a rewarding journey by volunteering, where you can take on exciting challenges, forge new connections, and engage in unique experiences with colleagues, friends, or family. Whether you can spare an hour, a day, or commit to regular volunteering with St Michael’s, your time will have a meaningful impact on local individuals and their loved ones who are facing a terminal illness.

Volunteer as an organisation

Organisations and businesses of all shapes and sizes help us so much by volunteering their time. Many come as a team to get ‘stuck in’ with an event or project we need help with. It’s a great way of giving back and supporting your CSR goals.

Volunteer in our shops

Volunteering within the St Michael’s retail team is a great way to learn new skills and meet new people.  Or perhaps you have knowledge or expertise already that you’d love to share, to help us raise more money for our patients and families?

We’re always on the lookout for people who have a love of all things pre-loved or vintage who can help in one of our shops or perhaps help to photograph and list on ebay or Vinted.

Whether you love to interact with the public or prefer to be behind the scenes, we’re sure to be able to find the perfect role for you!

We’d love you to join us

We know it can be hard (and scary!) to commit to a new role, especially when you don’t know what to expect. That’s why we offer a hands-on taster session. It’s your chance to come and have a go at volunteering with our full support and see if it’s for you. You’ll have other experienced volunteers on-hand and it will be less than 2 hours.
If you would like to find out more, please email volunteering@smhospicehereford.org or phone 01432 852 090. Alternatively, complete the simple form below and we’ll get in touch.
