Kickstart your healthcare career with St Michael’s Hospice
Ever thought about a career in healthcare but weren’t sure where to start?
St Michael’s Hospice is excited to be part of the Volunteer to Career programme, designed to give you hands-on experience, training, and guidance to take that first step into the industry.
What’s the Volunteer to Career Programme?
This programme is all about helping you build real skills and experience in a supportive healthcare environment. You’ll commit to a minimum of 60 hours of volunteering over 3 to 4 months, gaining practical knowledge and building a portfolio to showcase your abilities.
Once you’ve completed the programme, you’ll receive:
✅ A certificate of achievement
✅ A portfolio of evidence to boost your CV
✅ The chance to explore different roles in healthcare
✅ The opportunity to stay on as a volunteer or move into paid work
And if a suitable job opportunity arises at St Michael’s Hospice, you’ll be automatically shortlisted and offered an interview (though this doesn’t guarantee a job).
What roles are available?
We have three volunteer roles available as part of the programme:
💼 Volunteer Ward Clerk Receptionist Support Worker – Help with admin, assist on the reception desk, and support the ward staff.
🩺 Volunteer Care Support Worker – Work closely with patients, offering personal care and daily support to improve their well-being.
🎨 Volunteer Therapy and Activities Assistant – Support the therapy team by helping patients take part in engaging activities.
