Gloucester House and Bowling Green Cottage are set opposite each other and offer a range of delights to fascinate both the keen gardener, and casual visitor.

Gloucester House

This garden is of about one-third of an acre, and is largely walled.

There are distinct areas – a gravelled courtyard and a paved terrace, both with mature olive trees, a ‘paradise garden’, a small orchard, a pool with fountain, trimmed old yew trees, mirrors, herbaceous perennials and several sitting areas

Bowling Green Cottage

The garden at Bowling Green is semi-mature, most of which has been planted since 2018.

Originally part of Ledbury Park, and in a protected AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the garden overlooks the park which is home to Hereford cattle, hares, wild deer, owls and ancient ant hills.

Planting has taken place with climate change in mind. Drought-tolerant plants are becoming the owners’ priority, as they move from herbaceous borders to those more commonly seen in warmer countries. You’ll see Alliums, Flax, Bay, Lavender, Rosemary, olives, vines and fig trees. The garden is also home to Peonies, a wide variety of roses, many wild flowers, Choisia, Anenomes, Iris, Acers, espaliered apple and pear trees, and a cloud hedge. It is very much an emerging project.

Things to look out for: Catalpa bignonioides (Indian Bean tree), two ancient yews at the top of the garden, a well-established Wisteria, Hydrangea Annabelle, and several ornamental Cardoons.
