Visiting your loved-one

Speak to a member of staff if you have any questions about visiting, but we want you to feel at home when you’re here.

The patient bedrooms have their own outside areas for you and your loved one to enjoy.
In warm weather, you you might like to bring a picnic to enjoy in the space, for example.

St Michael’s Hospice recognises the power of pet ‘therapy’ to aid stimulation and communication. Studies have shown that the presence of companion animals can improve the well-being of patients and lower the rate of anxiety, simply by making the environment happier, more enjoyable and less frightening.

We are also aware that not everyone enjoys the company of animals and there are health risks that could affect our patients, staff and visitors. We therefore ask you to ring ahead to let us know so that we can make sure that we can accommodate their needs.

You must keep your pet under control and, if using the gardens, please keep to the paths with dogs on leads and clean up after them.

We love to see children at the Hospice, and we welcome children of all ages. Whilst here, there are refreshments within the cafe and ample outdoor space.

All pathways and walkways are accessible for pushchairs and buggies. If you are exploring the garden, please keep to the paths and ensure children do not climb on the structures.

Parking is free and on-site, please follow the signs to visitor parking.

If you have an electric vehicle, we have charging points on site, these are located just passed the disabled car parking near the entrance to the building. All pathways are clearly marked when walking from the car park to the entrance.

We have a cafe on-site located just next to reception. The cafe is open 24hrs, 7 days a week and is self-service at present. The cafe is stocked with a range of sandwiches, refreshments and snacks. Once you have selected your items, please make payment at the Reception desk where we accept cash and card payments.

When Reception is not manned (7.00pm until 9am the following day) cash payments can be made via the honesty box within the cafe.

There are also vending machines outside the inpatient Unit that service snacks and hot and cold drinks.  These machines only accept card payments.

There is indoor and outdoor seating you are welcome to use.

If you are visiting all day, you may purchase a meal from the patient menu.  Please speak to a member of the nursing team to do this.

We are very lucky that we have a lot of outdoor space around the hospice, which is lovingly and expertly tended by our volunteering gardeners. You are more than welcome to explore our beautiful gardens. Please keep to the paths at all times, this is for your own safety and to protect our wonderful landscape.

All of our paths are accessible and wheelchair friendly. You can access the outdoor spaces via the pathway from bedrooms or through the cafe.

A relatives’ room with an ensuite bathroom is available to family members of very poorly patients who wish to stay overnight. Please speak to one of the Care Team if you would like to use this.
