A jackpot win in our weekly Lottery draw has come at a very special time for Hospice supporter Susan Ferguson.

Susan was called with the news of her £1,000 prize as she was planning a special fundraiser for us.

“It was a lovely surprise to be told I’d won this prize,” she said. “I have a significant birthday coming up this year and just thought ‘Why not raise money for charities I care deeply about’? So, I’ve decided on a fundraiser for St Michael’s Hospice.”

On 11th July, Susan will walk from one end of the Malvern Hills to the other.

Susan works at Malvern St James and has a very special link to St Michael’s through her friend and colleague, Zinnia Wilkinson. Susan (left) is pictured with Zinnia.

One of Zinnia’s daughters, India, was cared for at St Michael’s in 2017. She died at the Hospice shortly before Christmas that year, aged just 19.

A huge Doctor Who fan, India featured in a video while at the Hospice which explored her love for science and the hit BBC series. To date, the video has been viewed more than 22,000 times.

“India was such a special person who touched the lives of so many,” added Susan, who is pictured with Zinnia in front of artwork at Malvern St James which is dedicated to India.

“I know she was cared for so well by everyone at St Michael’s, which is why I want to raise as much money for the Hospice.”
