St Michael's to launch fundraising drive to raise £400k in just 40 hours
Caring for the Future allows community to “invest in the future of palliative care”
This weekend, St Michael’s Hospice will launch one of its most ambitious fundraising campaigns to date.
The charity is marking 40 years of providing palliative care and support across Herefordshire and beyond by attempting to raise £400,000 in just 40 hours. ‘Caring for the Future’ begins this Sunday (27th) at 7am, with St Michael’s asking supporters to help raise the crucial funds to support ongoing training and the development of staff who provide this renowned care.
With a target of £400,000, the funds raised will ensure that St Michael’s Hospice staff receive the essential training needed to continue delivering the highest standards of care for those facing life-limiting illnesses.
The campaign will take place on the Charity Extra platform.

Why We Need Your Help
As an independent charity, St Michael’s Hospice relies heavily on the generosity of the local community to fund 80% of its £11 million annual running costs. Increasing demand for palliative care, combined with the need to continuously upskill staff, has made additional funding critical. To maintain the Hospice’s ability to deliver world-class care, ongoing investment in staff development and training is a priority. This campaign will directly contribute to those efforts.
“We want to make sure that our team has the skills, knowledge, and resources to provide the very best care for our patients and their families,” said Rachel Jones, Income Generation, Marketing and Communications Director at St Michael’s Hospice. “This 40-hour campaign gives the community the chance to invest in the future of palliative care. Every donation helps our staff improve their skills, which in turn ensures that those we care for receive the most compassionate and professional support possible.”
How to Get Involved
The campaign, hosted on Charity Extra, will be live for 40 hours, from 7am on Sunday 27th October to 11pm on Monday 28th October, 2024. During this time, supporters can donate directly via the campaign’s webpage and follow a live tracker as the community works towards the fundraising goal.
With match-funding throughout the campaign, donations made during this 40-hour window will be doubled, making each contribution even more impactful. The Hospice is calling on local businesses, community groups, and individuals to rally behind this cause, spread awareness, and help hit – and hopefully exceed – the fundraising target.

How the Funds Will Be Used
The money raised will be invested in:
* Staff training and development, ensuring that our team remains equipped with the latest knowledge and skills in palliative care.
* Patient care services, supporting families and individuals with life-limiting illnesses across the Hospice’s inpatient, home-based, and outpatient services.
* Sustainability of care, helping St Michael’s Hospice continue to provide free, specialist care to the community long into the future.
The Importance of Your Support
Since its inception in 1984, St Michael’s Hospice has delivered care and support to over 15,000 local people. The Hospice is dedicated to ensuring patients receive high-quality, compassionate care, while also supporting their families throughout the most challenging times. ‘Caring for the Future’ aims to safeguard this legacy by investing in the professional development of the Hospice’s most vital asset – its people.
