Every year, we eagerly anticipate a truly special day here at St Michael’s Hospice: the annual visit from Tomor and Dasher, two enchanting reindeer from the wonderful team at Angel’s Animal Ark. This magical tradition is a highlight of our festive season, bringing joy, comfort, and a sprinkle of holiday wonder to everyone at the Hospice.
The excitement begins long before their arrival. This year, the sound of jingling festive bells and the gentle clip-clop of hooves echoed down our corridors as Tomor and Dasher made their way through the Hospice, spreading cheer to patients, families, staff, and volunteers alike. Adorned in their festive bells, the reindeer brought smiles and laughter wherever they went, creating unforgettable moments of connection and joy.
Special moments
For many of our families, this visit was described as the “most magical day ever.” The sight of the reindeer, their calm and gentle presence, and the festive spirit they embody have a profound impact on everyone they meet. One family shared how much of a difference it made to see their loved one light up with happiness, describing it as a memory they would treasure forever.
The visit isn’t just about the reindeer—it’s also a testament to the compassion and generosity of Angel’s Animal Ark. Their team donates their time to make these visits possible, motivated by their own personal connection to St Michael’s Hospice. “Having experienced the care and support provided here, we couldn’t think of anywhere better to bring Tomor and Dasher,” they shared. We are so grateful for their kindness and dedication.
The healing power of animals
Animal visits offer significant benefits to individuals with a terminal illness, making them an integral part of holistic care. The presence of animals can:
- Lift spirits: Interacting with animals can bring a sense of joy and normalcy, even in challenging times.
- Reduce stress: Gentle animals like reindeer have a calming effect, helping to reduce feelings of anxiety and isolation.
- Enhance connection: Visits from animals often spark conversations and create shared moments of happiness among patients, families, and staff.
- Provide comfort: Animals are non-judgmental and offer unconditional companionship, which can be incredibly soothing.
For our patients, these visits are a reminder that moments of magic and joy are still possible, even during difficult times. For families, they offer cherished memories and a sense of shared celebration.
Thank You, Angel’s Animal Ark
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Angel’s Animal Ark for bringing Tomor and Dasher to St Michael’s Hospice once again. Your generosity and dedication bring so much light and happiness to our community.
As the festive season continues, we’re reminded of the importance of kindness, connection, and the joy that small moments can bring. To everyone who makes these magical days possible, thank you for helping us create memories that will last a lifetime.
