"Memory Bears bring comfort at the most difficult times"

“I wanted something that my grandchildren could hold and hug when I’m gone.

“The Memory Bears gifted by St Michael’s bring comfort to them at the most difficult times.”

Not long after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, we offered Sara a Memory Bear for each of her three young grandchildren.

The Bears are available to patients to be passed on to younger ones as a tangible memory of someone special. Each of the Bears wears an individual top, created by a number of our very creative volunteers.

“It’s such a brilliant idea,” Sara added. “It’s important that children have something like this, and it means a lot that each jumper is handknitted. That makes it even more special.

“My youngest grandchild tucks the bear into bed with him. One has placed it proudly on a shelf, while the other has their bear at the end of the bed where she can look at it.

“They bring comfort at the most difficult times, and are loved by us all very much.”
