Life Patron award for Alister Walshe
Life Patron award for Alister Walshe
A former Chair of Trustees at St Michael’s Hospice has become only the third person to be named a Life Patron of the charity.
Alister Walshe stepped down from the Board of Trustees earlier this year having supported the Bartestree-based Hospice, as a Trustee and Volunteer, for 17 years.
During a dinner at the Hospice to mark Alister’s handover as Chair of Trustees to David Teague, the Life Patron award was announced in honour of Alister’s dedication and loyalty to the Bartestree-based Hospice.
He says it was a complete surprise to receive the award.
“I had no idea I was receiving it,” said Alister.
“It was very much a shock, and I don’t mind admitting I was quite emotional.”
At the dinner were the Hospice’s two other Life Patrons, Doctors Richard Miller and Jeff Kramer, who helped set-up St Michael’s in 1984 alongside the late Freda Pearce.
“It’s a huge honour to follow in the footsteps of two founders of St Michael’s. It means a lot to me,” Alister added.
“St Michael’s has been a part of my life for so long and it’s just lovely to receive this recognition.”
