"I was convinced I must have been the only entrant!"

Madeleine Newcomb was very grateful to St Michael’s for her jackpot raffle win – but in truth her love for the charity was cemented many years ago.

“My mother had Motor Neurone Disease and spent her last days in the Hospice back in 2007,” said Madeleine, who won first prize in our Win for Good Raffle.

“We felt her dignity was restored when she was at St Michael’s. We were also treated with great respect as a family.”

Madeleine says she always wants to help St Michael’s, “to keep your work thriving for other families”. Last year, Madeleine, who is 73, raised funds for St Michael’s by completing the London Marathon. It was a day she enjoyed immensely, but admits her marathon days are now behind her.

Madeleine continued support for St Michael’s saw her enter our Win for Good Raffle. Winning the top prize, however, couldn’t have been further from her mind.

“When I received the phone call telling me I had won, I was convinced that I must have been the only entrant,” she added.

“I was assured that this wasn’t the case though so I’m very grateful.”

Madeleine says she hopes to put the money towards a “proper” holiday, as she and her husband have gone without one for a couple of years.

“I’m planning to arrange something very soon, somewhere warm – that’s when my husband gets a date for his upcoming knee replacement!”

We wish you both a wonderful holiday – and thank you, Madeleine, for your continued support of St Michael’s Hospice.
