SUNDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER 2024

The Wye Valley Trek

Are you ready to embark on an amazing trek through Herefordshire?  Then join our Wye Valley Trek and challenge yourself to complete 40km as we celebrate 40 years of outstanding care here at St Michael’s Hospice and from our care teams out in the community.

From Goodrich to Ross-on-Wye then onwards to Hereford you will trek alongside the River Wye and through some stunning wooded areas along the way!

What to expect

On this trek, you’ll take in some of the best scenery Herefordshire has to offer.  You’ll start your journey at Goodrich and head towards Ross-on-Wye before winding your way through How Caple, Fownhope, Mordiford and all the way back to Hereford Rowing Club.  The vast majority of the route follows the Wye Valley Walk so it is well signed and marked on OS maps.

Walkers completing the full 40km will park at Hereford Rowing Club and then be taken by bus to the start point at Goodrich Castle, while those completing 20km will head out, also from Hereford Rowing Club, to Brockhampton Village Hall to join up with them for the second half.  Lunch will be served at Brockhampton Village Hall and marhsalls will be checking on the walkers at various points throughout the course with water and snacks so you won’t go hungry!

Two distances to choose from

40km Trek

Open to anyone aged 18 and over.

More about the 40km

Walkers completing the full distance will park, for free, at Hereford Rowing Club – meeting at 7am for a 7.30am departure by bus to the starting point at Goodrich Castle.  There will be lunch at Brockhampton Village Hall and snack stops along the way as our marshals meet you to check on your progress and refuel you for the onward journey.  We estimate it will take between 7 and 11 hours to complete the full 40km trek.

More about the 20km

Walkers completing the half distance – brand new for this year – will meet at Hereford Rowing Club at 10am for a 10.30am departure to Brockhampton Village Hall where they will meet the rest of the walkers and everyone should then finish around the same time back at the Rowing Club.  We estimate it will take between 3 and 5 hours to complete the 20km route.

From Goodrich to Ross-on-Wye then onwards to Hereford you will trek alongside the River Wye and through some stunning wooded areas along the way!

This year our intrepid trekkers can choose between 40km or 20km as they head out to enjoy all the stunning scenery that the Herefordshire countryside has to offer.  There are some sections where you will walk along the River Wye and some sections through wooded areas.

The 20km trekkers will join those doing the full distance at the halfway point so that everyone can head back to the Rowing Club together.

There will be medical support available across the route and comfort break facilities at each stop, plus additional accessible toilet facilities marked up on the route that will be issued.

We would love to have you with us as part of Team Trek!
