How great is art! Art workshops to continue thanks to Lottery funding

Lottery grant allows continuation of art activities in Day Services

Patients set to benefit from Jeanette’s twice-monthly classes

Many of our outpatients and carers will continue to benefit from the therapeutic activity of art, thanks to Lottery funding.

Jeanette McCulloch, a mixed media artist and friend of St Michael’s, along with writer Sara-Jane Arbury, have secured National Lottery Community Fund cash meaning they can continue their wonderful work with some of those attending our Day Services.

Jeanette has spent several months working alongside those living with dementia as part of our new Carers’ Wellbeing Course. Meeting fortnightly over a period of four months, patients are kept entertained and engaged during Jeannette’s stimulating art activity, whilst carers receive support to help them care, as well as having the opportunity to meet others in a similar position.

“We’re delighted Jeanette has secured this funding, meaning her wonderful art activities can continue for a further year,” said Sarah Farnsworth, Sister for our Dementia & Wellbeing Service.

“The classes have been so beneficial, and this funding will hopefully mean many more can experience Jeanette’s talent, positivity and warmth.”

Jeanette says the benefits of accessing practical arts sessions are numerous.

“These workshops are a social activity, thought-provoking, stimulating, enjoyable, purposefull, and can also be also a positive distraction,’ she said.

The project is set to begin in July 2024.
