Growing my love for gardening thanks to St Michael’s Hospice
Patients with a passion for gardening are continuing their hobby at St Michael’s thanks to the addition of a therapy greenhouse.
It is directly outside our Inpatient Unit ensuring easy access, with enough space to wheel beds around it.
Keen gardener Maureen Sanders loved spending time in the greenhouse whilst staying with us – and even grew some vegetables for our kitchen.
“I’ve always loved gardening, and I miss it terribly,” she said.
“So, when I came here and saw the greenhouse, with an adapted chair and raised tables, I just thought, ‘I’d love to be in there’.
“I’ve grown tomatoes, aubergines and chillies. It’s given me a lot of joy, watching things grow and then handing them over to the kitchen here.”
The greenhouse was made possible thanks to a £1,000 donation towards its cost from the Delphis Lodge of Freemasons.
