We provide counselling services tailored for individuals affected by a terminal illness, whether they are patients, family members, or caregivers. Engaging in open conversations about the challenges and changes can aid in recognizing issues, fostering positive transformations, and ultimately improving overall well-being.
Here for when you need us
What we do:
Taking time out with a professional can provide valuable clarity and a deeper understanding of one’s emotions, aiding in the process of working through challenging situations. Every individual’s experience is unique, which is why our counselling approach is personalised to cater to each person’s specific needs. We meticulously select a counsellor to match their requirements, fostering a trusting relationship where thoughts and feelings can be openly shared, promoting a supportive and empathetic environment.
Our support encompasses:
Tailored one-to-one counseling sessions: Our counselling sessions are designed to cater to individual preferences and comfort. People have the option to meet their counsellor in person at the hospice, connect via video call, or have sessions over the phone, or even combine these methods – whichever suits them best. These sessions are offered weekly with each one lasting approximately 50 minutes.
Flexible frequency, personalised support: The frequency of counselling sessions is determined by individual circumstances and is mutually agreed upon by the person and their counsellor. For individuals facing life-limiting illnesses and their families, our counselling support is open-ended. We aim to provide flexible and personalised support tailored to each person’s unique journey.
Absolute Confidentiality: Individuals can openly express themselves without any reservations when speaking with our counsellors. We offer a non-judgmental, safe space. Every detail shared remains entirely confidential. However, if there’s a concern about potential harm to oneself or others, we collaborate to ensure additional support is provided from other services, prioritising the safety of everyone involved.
Holistic Approach to Therapy: Beyond traditional talking therapy, our counsellors may also encourage creative outlets as a means to express emotions and discover practical coping strategies. This holistic approach promotes emotional healing and resilience, allowing individuals to explore their feelings through various avenues, fostering a more comprehensive therapeutic experience.
Listening support volunteers:
Our Listening Support Volunteers are equipped with active listening skills and are here to provide you with a safe space to think, express your emotions, and process your thoughts and feelings. Talking to someone outside your immediate circle of family and friends can be incredibly beneficial. Some individuals find one session sufficient, while others benefit from ongoing support.
While our volunteers don’t assist with practical tasks, they are well-informed about local services and can provide valuable information about them. Rest assured, our volunteers are here to lend a compassionate ear and guide you toward the support you may need.
