Organisers of one of Herefordshire’s biggest annual fundraisers say early ticket sales indicate numbers might be their biggest ever.
Around 200 women signed up to the Venus midnight walk within days of tickets going on sale.
The St Michael’s Hospice-led event, which sees more than a thousand women dressed in pink walk the midnight streets of Hereford, takes place on Friday 9th July – the first time it has been held in the summer, having moved from its regular September slot.
‘It’s wonderful that so many women have pledged their support to Venus already,’ said the Hospice’s Events and Community Fundraising Manager, Matt Ashcroft.
‘We really missed our pink ladies last year because of the Covid-enforced cancellation, and can’t wait to welcome them back this summer.
‘We’re sure this is going to be one of our most popular – and emotional – nights yet.’
Previous Venus walks have raised as much as £60,000 for the Bartestree-based Hospice, which provides care and support for patients and families affected by a terminal illness.Â
Open to females aged 12 and over (those aged 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult), walkers have a choice of three routes – 5K, 10K or 15K – and are encouraged to get sponsored ahead of taking part.
On the night there will be selfie points, including the ever-popular illuminated ‘LOVE’ letters, dotted along each of the three circular routes, plus time to pause and remember loved ones at Hereford Cathedral.
The event will be fully marshalled and will start and end at Hereford Leisure Centre on Holmer Road, with refreshment stop-offs along the way.
The Hospice says it is planning for Venus to take place after the government has lifted social contact restrictions. Should this situation change, St Michael’s will put measures in place to ensure all guidelines are adhered to.
