SOLD OUT! RUN Hereford 2026 set to be biggest in a decade
Organisers announce sell-out as entries pass 1,100
The organisers of a leading Herefordshire running event say this year’s instalment has completely sold out.
More than 1,100 people will gather for RUN Hereford next Sunday (10th), with the event set to raise thousands of pounds for St Michael’s Hospice.
Entry numbers are their highest for a decade, with the Half Marathon and 10K routes selling out over a month ago. The final 5K places were snapped up on Wednesday.
“We cannot wait for RUN Hereford, and the news we have sold out makes this year’s event even more exciting,” said Amy Johnson, Race Director and Lead Events and Community Fundraiser at St Michael’s.
“What is so special about RUN is that it attracts entries from such a wide variety of people; from keen club runners to those running for the first time in memory of a loved one cared for by St Michael’s.
“When you see a supporter cross that finish line, bringing to an end months of hard work and dedication, it is hard not be inspired.”
Runners from as far afield as Germany, London and Exeter have signed up.
Among those closer to home is Donna’s Tribe – a 20-plus group of past and present members of the Young Farmers movement in Herefordshire. They are running in memory of Donna Powell, who spent her final weeks being cared for by St Michael’s.
“This Hospice is close to every team member’s heart, and each and every stride will go towards honouring their unrivalled dedication,” said Phillip Powell, Donna’s son.
Anyone not signed up can still play a big part in the day by turning out to cheer on the runners. Popular vantage spots include High Town in Hereford city centre, and along Hampton Park Road.
RUN Hereford has become an institution in the city since first launching 45 years ago. After many years taking place from venues such as Hereford Leisure Centre and the city’s Livestock Market, RUN Hereford moved into town last year with runners setting off from the Castle Green, before making their way to the finish line at the Shell Store in Rotherwas.
As well as being an inspirational day for runners, it is also a vital fundraiser for St Michael’s Hospice, which relies on the incredible generosity of its community to raise over £10 million each year.
“As a charity, we are forever grateful to our supporters for their unwavering backing,” Amy added.
“It is thanks to those who have signed up to RUN, those who will sponsor them, and those who give in any other way, that St Michael’s can continue to provide compassionate palliative and end-of-life care, free-of-charge, to those who need it.
“So when our runners are hurting, or feel they can’t reach the finish line, I would urge them to think of the difference they will have made just by stepping up to the start line. It really is greatly appreciated.”
Amy said a huge thank you should go to the many volunteers who will give up their time to ensure the event runs smoothly, and to event sponsors Hereford Contract Canning for their continued support of RUN.
She also thanked the local community for their understanding in relation to the road closures taking place on the day.
