Young volunteer thanks St Michael's as he departs for university
Binara was a Homemaker on our Inpatient Unit
One of our youngest volunteers is off to university!
Binara, a Homemaker on our Inpatient Unit, will follow his dream of becoming a doctor by joining the University of Newcastle to study medicine. Before leaving though, he has thanked St Michael’s for providing him such a valuable insight into Hospice life.
“I learnt a lot of skills whilst volunteering at the Hospice, enabling me to gain a holistic view of what the life of a doctor could be when being able to interact with the patients,” he said. “A lot of experiences I gained from the Hospice were added to my (university) statement and were mentioned in interview as they were very valuable and precious moments which I learnt so much from!”
Binara is the son of Great British Bake Off star Saku.
Just before last Christmas, during a visit to St Michael’s, the pair spoke to us about their experience of the Hospice, which you can view below.
The best of luck, Binara, and thank you for devoting your time to St Michael’s!
