We're marking one year since mum died – by taking part in the Venus Midnight Walk

Sisters Fran and Anoushka first encountered the Venus walk when they were driving home from the hospital after saying goodbye to their mum – now they're walking it in her memory

Sisters Fran and Anoushka first encountered the Venus walk when they were driving home from the hospital last summer

When Fran and Anoushka cross the Venus finish line next month it will be exactly one year since their first encounter with our annual women’s walk.

It was around midnight on 11th July when the sisters were leaving Hereford County Hospital having said goodbye to their dear mum, Gail, who had died aged just 63.

“We were driving down Commercial Road when we were met by this sea of pink,” said Fran. “My sister recognised it as the Venus walk and said we must do that next year. So, we signed up!”

Gail had received successful surgery following a grade 4 Astrocytoma – a very aggressive brain tumour – but was later supported by St Michael’s when the tumour regrew quickly. She had been admitted to Hereford County Hospital with an infection, but sadly died 24 hours later.

Fran says her dad, Keith, continues to benefit from bereavement support offered by St Michael’s. “It means so much for us to raise funds for St Michael’s, who supported mum at some of her darkest times, and who continue to support us as a family.”
