Summer Draw: Our winner’s practical spending spree
For many, winning over £2,000 in a prize draw would lead to a spending spree on a holiday, garden makeover or shopping trip.
But for our Summer Draw winner, the £2,021 top prize will be spent on something far more practical.
‘I need to have some dental work, and my car needs to go into the garage, so this prize came at exactly the right time,’ said Janet Sirman.
‘I couldn’t believe it when I heard I’d won. It was amazing. I was on cloud nine and immediately rang all my family to tell them.’
Janet, who lives in Ledbury, has entered our Summer Draw for the past four or five years, but this is the first time she has struck gold. After winning she was also keen to break the news to her postal worker.
‘She’s so lovely. I don’t know her name, but she’s always so friendly, so I wanted to return the compliment by telling her she had delivered the winning prize. She was so pleased.’
Janet, who works at Eastnor Castle, is fully aware of the role hospices play in the community.
‘All my family have had breast cancer over the years, so we’re acutely aware of the importance of places like St Michael’s, and I’m very pleased to be able to support them by playing the Summer Draw.’
This year’s Draw was a great success, raising more than £30,000 for St Michael’s. There was also a £250 second prize and £100 third prize. Ten players scooped £20 shopping vouchers.
