SMH Lottery winner: “Never in a million years did I think I would win.”
When Kirsty Pye joined our Hospice Lottery, she did so as a way to help support others benefitting from the care her family had just received.
Little did she think she would receive a call from our Lottery team to say she’d won our £1,000 jackpot.
“I don’t play to win, and never in a million years did I think I would, so it was a lovely surprise to receive that phone call,” said Kirsty.
“Because it’s a small amount to play, I don’t miss the money coming out of my account, but I know it’s going towards helping others.
“I hope to use some of the winnings to put towards good causes as we approach Christmas.”
Twelve years ago, Kirsty’s grandad was admitted to St Michael’s for what was supposed to be a short period of respite.
“He had cancer and, unfortunately, his situation deteriorated and he died at the Hospice a few days later,” said Kirsty.
“He was so comfortable and well looked-after at St Michael’s, and we as a family were well cared for too.
“From that point I knew I wanted to support St Michael’s. We’ve taken part in Paint Runner before but I wanted my support to be more regular, so I joined the St Michael’s Hospice Lottery.”
