Philly's ambitious walking fundraiser in memory of Dad
While being cared for at St Michael’s, Peter Jinman asked his daughter to fundraise for the Hospice
We all know Herefordshire is a beautiful county – and three St Michael’s supporters will see plenty of it during an ambitious fundraiser this May.
Philly Jinman, her partner Dave, and friend Lucy will tackle all 154 miles of the Herefordshire Trail in just 10 days.
The inspiration behind the fundraiser is Philly’s dad, Peter Jinman, who, whilst being cared for at St Michael’s in 2023, asked Philly to raise money for the Hospice.
“We asked how he wanted us to do this, he thought for a moment and said ‘dog walk with Lucy’ so we started thinking,” said Philly.
The idea of the Herefordshire Trail was later born, although they won’t be accompanied by any four-legged friends.
“We felt that including dogs was a bit of a liability, but we could still challenge ourselves and walk a county that Dad worked in, loved and called his home while fulfilling what he had asked us to do – a walk to raise some money for St Michael’s Hospice.”
Peter, a former vet and county councillor, underwent surgery and received chemotherapy for B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Unfortunately, the cancer spread to his central nervous system, and he was transferred to St Michael’s where he spent his final days.
“After the noise and bustle of the hospital, I felt we could finally relax and breathe and focus on spending what little time we had left with him, knowing he was being taken care of and receiving the best care possible,” added Philly.
