Mark's fundraising pledge despite his own cancer diagnosis
Mark already raised over £3K last year in memory of his sister, Jo
Our fundraisers ALWAYS amaze us – but Mark Radon has left us speechless!
Last year, Mark set out to raise £10,000 for us in memory of his sister, Jo, who was cared for by us but died aged just 39.
Sadly, he was unable to complete his series of running fundraisers after contracting cancer.
But in spite of his diagnosis, Mark says he will spend 2025 taking on a series of gruelling runs in a bid to reach his fundraising target!
“I still have the hunger to get to the magical £10,000 target for the wonderful St Michael’s Hospice,” said Mark, who was told he has non-hodgkin lymphoma after developing symptoms during one of his fundraising runs, which he regularly carried out with a 38lb weighted bergen on his back.
“The irony that I had contracted cancer whilst raising money for my sister’s memory after her own brave battle against cancer was not lost on me.
“As I stand and fight my own battle now, I take this opportunity to do something for the Hospice again. So many families like mine rely on those fine nurses to care for them and their loved ones in these dark times.
“I will be completing 2025 miles in 2025 as I fight my own battle against cancer, as I recover from chemotherapy and regain all the strength and fitness I have had until this year.”
