Lottery winner Sandra: I've promised my husband wine – but I don't know what I'm going to buy
Lottery-winning Hospice supporter Sandra Matthews knows what she’ll buy her husband with the winnings – but isn’t sure how to treat herself.
“I’ve promised my husband half a dozen bottles of wine, but I need to think about what to buy myself. There’s a lovely Highland Cow ornament I keep seeing on a TV gameshow, so perhaps I’ll look into buying something like that. Either way, I will definitely be donating some of my winnings back to St Michael’s.”
Sandra found out about her £1,000 jackpot after receiving a letter from the Hospice Lottery team which explained they had some “exciting news” for her.
“When I got in touch with them, I couldn’t believe what they were telling me,” she said. “You never play to win, but it was a lovely surprise to be told that news.”
Sandra has a close affinity to St Michael’s following the care given to her 90-year-old mum, Pamela, who died at the Hospice.
“That was 10 years now, but I still remember the care and compassion shown to mum, and us all as a family. I know mum was very happy to be there, which meant a lot. What I found particularly comforting was that we were involved in everything they did, and every decision which was made. Nothing was too much trouble.”
