Whitestone will be a centre for everyone. Shoppers will be able to explore the huge 14,000 sq ft sales area to find a bargain and maybe enjoy a coffee in the comfortable refreshment area. People can bring their pre-loved good quality items to the donation station so these can be turned into vital funds for the charity to pay for patient care. Others might be coming to work and learn in our upcycling hub or to attend a course, learning session or support group in the meeting rooms. Everyone will be able to learn about the work of St Michael’s and the important role it plays in ensuring terminally ill people get the care and support they deserve at our nearby Hospice in Bartestree.
All of the activities will be supported by ample parking with bays for blue badge holders, people with young children, EV charging points and a cycle store. So, whether arriving on two or four wheels you will be catered for!
The building is being made easy to access from the car park with dedicated walkways, revamped steps, a lift to all levels and facilities for wheelchair users.
Whitestone will open in phases over the coming months:
Phase 1: The Donation Centre on the ground level will be open from Thursday 22 February 2024 at 9am. It will accept good quality pre-loved goods including furniture, clothing, bric-a-brac, books and media, toys, bridal and occasion wear. With parking just outside the door, it will make bringing your unwanted treasures to us super easy. The Donation Centre will be open 4 days per week initially from Thursday – Sunday. Once the retail space is up and running the donation centre will move to 7-day opening.
How to find us
The Donation Centre is located at the back on the Whitestone site. Please follow the road around the building to the back where you will be able to park in our handy ‘quick-drop’ zones.
Workshop and upcycling hub
The workshop and upcycling hub also on the ground level will be used on a small scale from March with upcycling furniture and other wooden products to give items a new lease of life. The workshop benefits from having spray booths and we will be using an array of chalk paints and materials, so techniques for all abilities will be used, to create special items that can be purchased in the store.
Phase 2– The main store on the upper floor will open on 1st May 2024 (Date TBC) with over 14,000 square feet of pre-loved retail therapy- including clothing, books and entertainment, children’s clothing and toys, bric-a-brac, seasonal gifts, furniture and electricals.
This site will also showcase our first ever bridal and occasion wear, children’s play area with baby changing facilities and a coffee shop. Perfect for a trip out with family or friends, or perhaps a place to grab a coffee and cake whilst having a read or checking emails.
The store will be open 7 days per week, 9am – 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am – 4pm on Sunday.
Phase 3– the Education and Training Centre – opening date to be confirmed. We want to create welcoming spaces for all to enjoy, this will include existing and new hospice groups using the site as well as the wider community. We are open to suggestions on the different groups we could welcome to Whitestone in the future- we’re thinking about a Knit and Natter group and a Men’s Shed group but would love to hear any ideas you may have. The centre will be set up with a purpose-built training centre, so that we can build upon our mission to train others to deliver excellence in palliative care, with our ultimate aim of reaching more people across Herefordshire and beyond.
