Hereford Dog Day is a fundraising event dedicated to supporting our cause and growing something special for the local community.
By attending, entering categories, and supporting our stallholders, you’re helping us build an event that returns bigger and better every year.
We want this to become Hereford’s favourite annual dog day and it starts with you.

How to enter your dog:
1. Book in advance:
The best way to make sure your dog is in the running is by entering them for categories when you buy your tickets. You’ll also get a 33% discount on the category entry fee making it £2 per dog per category.
2. Enter on the day
Alternatively, you can decide on the day. If entering on the day, you can enter the competitions up until 5 minutes before the start of each category unless the category has reached capacity beforehand. £3 per dog per category.
3. Please make sure you meet and agree to the participation rules for entering your dog into categories.
These are ‘Fun’ categories the judge’s decision is always final.
Participation Rules:
- All dogs must legally have identification. Under the Control of Dogs Order 1992, every dog in a public place must wear a collar (or harness) with the owner’s name and address (including postcode) inscribed on it or on a tag/badge attached to it.
- All dogs should be reasonably well-behaved and not aggressive towards other dogs or judges.
- All dogs must be up to date with vaccinations, and bitches can’t be in season.
- All dogs must not be subject to court control orders or be of a banned type under the Dangerous Dog Act 1991.
- Any aggressive or unsafe handling towards the dog or officials results in immediate disqualification.
- Dogs must always be kept on leads.
Prizes:
- Every dog who enters will get a named participation certificate!
- Judges Top 3 in each category will receive a rosette.
Categories:
Prettiest Puppy
Puppies under 12 months old. Dogs must be always kept on leads.
Golden Oldie
Dogs over 10 Years old. Dogs must be always kept on leads.
Best Rescue
Dogs must have been adopted from a rescue or rehomed. Dogs must always be kept on leads.
Most Handsome Dog
Has to be a male dog. Dogs must always be kept on leads.
Prettiest Bitch
Has to be a female dog. Dogs must always be kept on leads.
Best Crossbreed
Strictly for dogs with mixed heritage (two or more breeds). Dogs must always be kept on leads.
Waggiest Tail
Judges aren’t looking for a technical “standard”; they want to see enthusiasm. Dogs must be kept on leads.
Best Biscuit Catcher
Biscuits will be provided however, if your dog has any dietary requirements please provide your own. Dogs must always be kept on leads.
Quickest Sausage Eater
Sausages will be provided however if your dog has any dietary requirements please provide your own. Dogs must always be kept on leads.
Best Trick
Dogs must be kept on lead, apart from when it’s their turn. Treats and toys can be used to assist the trick.

Everything you need to know
Here’s all of the information you’ll need for a really enjoyable and unforgettable day!
Responsibility for Your Dog
You are solely responsible for the behaviour, welfare, and control of your dog always while attending the event. Dogs must be under close supervision and handled by a competent person. Dogs must be kept on leads throughout the duration of this event.
Dogs are entered into Competitions at their own risk.
Behaviour Standards
Dogs must be well-socialised and non-aggressive. Any dog displaying aggressive, disruptive, or unsafe behaviour (including excessive barking, lunging, or biting) must be removed from the event immediately upon request by event staff.
Clean Up
Please always clean up after your dog and use the bins provided.
Right to refuse entry for safety reasons
Event organisers can refuse entry to a dog (or owner) if:
- The dog shows aggressive or unsafe behaviour
- The dog appears unwell or contagious
- The owner cannot control the dog properly
- The dog doesn’t meet event rules (e.g. on a lead)
- The dog does not wear identification (legal requirement).
We want everyone to have as fun and enjoyable a day as possible! So please consider if this event will be comfortable for your dog and make note of the below measures.
All dogs MUST:
- Be registered and certified
- Be neutered
- Be microchipped
If your dog is exempt from banned breeds then they will also need to have:
- Have third-party liability insurance
- Show a certificate of exemption / show proof of registration on the exempt dog index.
Dog Identification:

Weather: This is an outdoor event so please consider the weather on the day. There will be limited shaded areas.
Welfare: Please do not leave animals in vehicles. Even on mild days, temperatures in cars can rise rapidly and cause serious harm or death. Event organisers reserve the right to take appropriate action if a dog is at risk.
Dog Behaviour:
All dogs must be well behaved around public and other dogs. There is a zero-tolerance policy for aggression. If a dog lunges, snaps, or bites any other dog or human we have the right to ask them to leave the event.
Leads:
Dogs must be kept on leads at all times, unless they are participating in categories that state they can be taken off the lead.
Dog Waste: It is the owner’s responsibility to clean up after their dog and provide poo bags. Bins will be available throughout the event to dispose of waste.
Water Stations: Water stations for dogs will be on-site, but we would strongly advise bringing your own supply.
First Aid: First Aiders will be at the event for any human medical issue.

Parking
There is ample free parking at Hereford Racecourse for this event.
Cost: Free of charge for event attendees
Location: Roman Road, Hereford, HR4 9QU (easily accessed from A49/A4103).
Accessible Parking: Designated spots in the main car park for Blue Badge holders.
Drop-off: Available just outside the main enclosure entrance.
Alternative Parking: While parking at the course is free, city centre parking (e.g., Station Avenue) is available about 2 miles away
Food & Drink:
You’re welcome to bring your own food and drink to Hereford Dog Day!
But please make sure you dispose of your waste and alcohol is strictly prohibited.

St Michael’s Hospice Doggy Treat Lucky Dip
An exciting game where dogs choose a surprise treat or toy from a collection of wrapped or hidden items in shredded paper.
This event will go ahead in most weather conditions.
However, the safety and welfare of dogs, attendees, and staff is our top priority.
In cases of extreme or unsafe weather (including but not limited to high winds, extreme heat, heavy rain, flooding, or ice), event organisers may modify, delay, or cancel the event.
If the event is cancelled by organisers, ticket holders will be offered either a refund or transfer to a rescheduled date.
If the event proceeds, but you choose not to attend due to weather, refunds may not be issued.
Photography and video will be taken at this event!
We love capturing all the special moments and sharing them with our wonderful supporters! These images may be used for promotional purposes, in future publications, presentations, and across our digital and social media channels for up to five years after the event.
If you’d prefer not to be in any photos, simply let a member of the St Michael’s Hospice team know, and they’ll ensure you’re not included in any images used.
Our staff will be easy to spot, wearing badges and high-vis vests marked “Press & Media Team.”
