We offer a range of placements across our clinical teams for healthcare professionals, both pre and post-qualification. All placements are carefully co-ordinated to ensure the safety, dignity and continuity of care for our patients and their families.
Types of Professional Placements
Junior Doctors
We offer four-month placements for newly qualified doctors who are yet to specialise. These placements provide valuable experience in palliative care, supporting the development of clinical skills, patient-centred care and an understanding of hospice services.
Specialist Registrars
One-year placements are available for specialist registrars as part of their training in palliative medicine. These offer in-depth exposure to complex cases and multidisciplinary team working.
Student Nurses
Student nurses can undertake elective placements of six-to-eight weeks, typically in their final year. These provide an immersive experience in hospice care, with opportunities to develop skills in holistic assessment, symptom management, communication and collaborative working with a multidisciplinary team.
Qualified Nurses
We offer spoke placements for qualified nurses undertaking palliative care education. These placements range from one-day to one-week and are designed to enhance clinical skills, knowledge and confidence in delivering specialist end-of-life cae.
Paramedic Students
We offer week-long placements to support paramedic students in completing their alternative placement requirements. Students gain experience across our In-Patient Unit (IPU), Day Services and Hospice at Home team, developing an understanding of care delivery across different settings.
There are also opportunities to learn about our wider Supportive Care services, including Spiritual Care, Complementary Therapy, Social Work and Counselling, and the vital role they play in supporting patients and families.
Spoke Requests
Registered professionals may request short placements of one or two days within the In-Patient Unit (IPU), Day Services or Hospice at Home Team.
How to Apply
If you are interested in a spoke placement, we encourage you to apply as early as possible. Spaces are limited and require a minimum of four weeks’ notice to arrange.
To apply, please complete the Spoke Placement Request form. A member of the Education Team will be in touch as soon as possible to confirm whether we are able to accommodate your request.
We welcome your application and look forward to hearing from you.
