Providing the very best clinical care to patients is only part of our offering here at St Michael’s.
Our Supportive Care team is on hand to help patients and family members in a vast range of ways.

Mindfulness

Featuring one-to-one sessions, group sessions, and courses for patients, family members and the public. Engaging in mindfulness may help us manage challenges by changing our perspectives and developing calm and creative responses. Mindfulness courses at St Michael’s have been so successful that we now plan to roll out to other Hospices teaching them how to develop a successful Mindfulness service

Social Work

Provides practical advice and emotional support to patients and family members, advising on accessing financial support benefits, plus help arranging packages of care. The Social Work team also arranges bereavement lunches, and provides support and companionship for family members of Hospice patients who have been recently bereaved

Spiritual Care

Offers a listening ear, whether religious or not. Available to inpatients, those attending Day Services, and Hospice at Home patients in the community. Also on hand to families, friends and carers. The team helps with funeral arrangements and leads on our Light up a Life services.

Bereavement Support Groups

Consisting of nine different groups, spread throughout the county, plus a walking group, bereavement choir, and an ever-expanding Whatsapp group. All open to anyone bereaved in Herefordshire and surrounds. A Volunteer team also supports those lonely and isolated.

Counselling

Offering one-to-one counselling sessions, plus group sessions, open to those whose loved one is under our care, or has died. Sessions are also open to the patient. This dedicated team is on hand during a time of need, offering understanding, compassion, and a listening ear.

Art Therapy in Care Homes

A grant-funded project has allowed palliative patients in care homes to benefit from a community-based self-employed Art Therapist. Patients visiting our Living Well group in Day Services each week can also access our volunteer art therapist.

Complementary Therapy

The team offers a range of therapies from acupuncture, massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, shiatsu and others to patients and family members. People receiving a course of these therapies typically feel more relaxed, calmer and often with a reduction in pain or discomfort.
