Help us this Christmas in bringing comfort, care, and a little festive magic to those who need it most. Together, we can make sure no one faces their final days alone.
At St Michael’s Hospice, we provide round-the-clock expert care, both at the hospice and in people’s own homes across Herefordshire completely free of charge. We support families through life’s most difficult moments, offering compassion, comfort, and understanding long after a loved one has died.
This Christmas, you can help ensure that no one faces their last days alone.
“Imagine the difference it makes knowing there’s somewhere safe, ready to bring comfort, expert care, and a bit of Christmas magic.”
— Matt, CEO

‘Twas Christmas Morning on the Ward
Christmas Day at St Michael’s is far from ordinary…
“I wave goodbye to my family and head out into the dark to start my drive to St Michael’s. I’ll miss Christmas morning with my loved ones, but providing care to families who might be spending their final Christmas together is what drives me on.”
Families arrive with gifts under their arms and settle into our specially decorated lounges for Christmas lunch. Others may even head home for a festive meal, making moments that will last forever.
Our team embraces the season with Christmas tunics, tinsel, and sparkly badges, not for ourselves, but to make these moments truly special for the families we care for.
“We could all do with a little festive magic. I’m lucky I witness it every time I put on my blue uniform.”
— Paula, Nursing Team
The quiet magic of Christmas at St Michael’s
As December deepens, inside the Hospice, the rhythm of care continues with quiet devotion.
Each day begins with ward meetings, pain relief adjustments, gentle physiotherapy, and warm hands offering comfort. And then the magic arrives:
-
Sleigh bells jingle as two visiting reindeer delight patients wrapped in blankets.
-
Christmas lunch arrives, with roast turkey, golden roasties, and mince pies that conjure warm memories.
-
Volunteers hang garlands, and carollers fill the corridors with harmonies that lift the walls.
“It was a really magical environment to be in during such a difficult time.”
— Adam, whose mum and dad were cared for on our Inpatient Unit
This delicate balance between the clinical and the magical is what makes Christmas at St Michael’s so special. Every act of care, every festive detail, is wrapped in love.
But we can’t make the magic happen without you.
From hot meals and festive activities to expert care around the clock, your support ensures that every patient and family experiences comfort, dignity, and love this holiday season.
