A picture of happiness: Postcards raises almost £10,000
Miniature art masterpieces have raised a massive amount for St Michael’s Hospice.
A total of 221 lots caused a bidding frenzy towards the end of a three-week online auction.
Called Postcards from Life, the fundraiser has ensured £9,206 will be making its way to us.
‘The quality of artwork this year has been exceptional, and matched only by the tremendous support shown by bidders,’ said Gaynor Warren, event co-ordinator.
Bids were placed from as far away as Canada and Dubai.
The most successful lot – a sketch of a hedgehog drawn by Sandra Bilyard – raised £280. It’s pictured above.
There was no brief for the artists, meaning they could produce whatever subject matter they wished, as long as it was postcard-sized. Many of the works were produced during lockdown.
‘As always we’re incredibly grateful to Brightwells for their support by hosting the online bidding platform,’ Gaynor added.
‘Not only have our successful bidders secured themselves artwork which will brighten any room, they are also helping families in our community who are living with a terminal illness.
‘We hope that every time our supporters glance up at their artwork, they’ll be reminded of how much they’ve helped their Hospice.’
