Course Overview:

This interactive workshop provides an introduction to the principles and practices of palliative and end-of-life care. The content is aligned with the NHSE Career Pathway, Core Capabilities in Practice, and the Education Framework for Palliative and End-of-Life Care (2024).

Participants will develop foundational knowledge and practical skills to support individuals with palliative and end-of-life needs, with focus on delivering compassionate, person-centred care.

Topics Include:

  • Principles of effective communication in palliative care.
  • Introduction to assessment, including key influences and perceptions.
  • Promoting comfort and wellbeing through evidence-based practical care.
  • Awareness of advance care planning and its role in care delivery.
  • Core values underpinning palliative and end-of-life care.

Learning Approach:

The workshop is highly interactive, incorporating group discussion, problem-solving activities, case studies and simulation-based learning using clinical equipment and manikins to reinforce practical skills.

Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their learning and identify key actions to apply in practice, supporting improvements in patient care.
