Action! Film screening raises funds for St Michael's

Thanks to Alexandra Winnington for calling in to tell us about this special film screening

The screening of a special film charting the life of a Women’s Auxiliary Air Force officer during the Second World War proved a fundraising hit for St Michael’s.

‘Love, Laughter and Loss’ was made by Rory MacColl and featured his mother’s time as a WAAF officer between 1939-1946.

Rory was cared for by St Michael’s last summer but sadly died. His sister, Alexandra Winnington, organised the film screening in Clifton upon Teme in memory of her brother, and mother, Patricia Rickman.

We were delighted to be visited by Alexandra who told us all about the screening.

“Rory was at St Michael’s during July 2024 and had the best possible care anyone could wish for,” she said.

“He had just made a film about our mother’s time in the Second World War as a WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force) officer from 1939-1946 when she was finally signed out.

“She had always shown us some wonderful leatherbound photo albums which she had made and were full of news and events, with historical content and a resume of her time personally and her connections during this time.”

Patricia had been stationed in a variety of locations in the UK and abroad, including Italy and Egypt.

The film was also shown in Pembridge on VE Day and has helped bring over £1,000 to St Michael’s.
