Gift Aid Awareness Day: 5 Reasons to #TickTheBox
Every year, charities miss out on £560m in unclaimed Gift Aid tax relief.
This Gift Aid Awareness Day, inspired by work of the Charity Tax Group, we want to raise awareness about the difference Gift Aid makes and encourage our supporters to ‘Tick the Box’ and help their donations go even further.
So what is Gift Aid? Gift Aid is a scheme that allows charities to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers. For every £1 that is donated with Gift Aid, charities can claim a further 25p from the government. For example, if you donated £20, with Gift Aid we would actually receive £25.

Here are 5 reasons why you should ‘Tick the Box’ and register for Gift Aid
1. It costs you nothing!
You can boost the impact your donation makes at no extra cost. Gift Aid increases the value of your donation by 25%, without costing you a penny more. For every £1 you give, we receive an extra 25p from the government.
2. It’s quick and easy
Just ‘Tick the Box’! All it takes is a simple tick of a box or a quick online form to get yourself registered. Once you’ve registered, Gift Aid applies to all your future donations too, including pre-loved goods – just let our shop teams know your postcode and they’ll add it to your donation.
3. You’ll be supporting more of the work you care about
One little additional step means a huge difference to us! The extra 25% we gain helps us reach more people, fund more projects, and make an even bigger difference—thanks to your generosity.
4. You’re already eligible if you pay tax
If you pay UK Income or Capital Gains Tax, you can Gift Aid your donations. Most people qualify without even realising it!
5.You stay in control
No longer a taxpayer? Don’t worry, you can cancel your Gift Aid declaration at any time, and it doesn’t affect your tax status or personal finances.
