Generous vehicle donation enables special patient journeys
Extraordinary generosity shown by the Gordon McLeod Leukaemia Fund
More St Michael’s Hospice patients can now enjoy memorable trips or visits home thanks to the purchase of a specially adapted vehicle.
The Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) allows those with limited mobility to enter, travel and exit the vehicle safely and comfortably, without having to leave their wheelchair.
St Michael’s has received the purpose-designed Peugeot Horizon thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Gordon McLeod Leukaemia Fund.
“We’re thrilled to receive this vehicle, which will benefit so many of our patients,” said Siobhan MacQuillan, Therapy Lead at St Michael’s.
“Many people staying on our Inpatient Unit tell us they would love to experience one last trip. That might be to the beach; to a park; or perhaps a drive home to see their house, garden or pet.
“This has posed a challenge in the past, but thanks to this generous gift, we can transport patients in comfort and safety, fulfilling a lasting wish.”
Gordon McLeod said: “We are delighted to continue our long association with St Michael’s Hospice, helping such a worthy organisation. I am grateful to our multitude of Hereford helpers, who have worked tirelessly over the years, raising funds for local worthy causes and turning wishes into reality.”
