Our volunteers are like royalty to us – but for rugby fan Simon Licence, he went one better. 

Simon is a Facilities volunteer here at St Michael’s, as well as being a huge rugby fan.

During a recent visit to Cardiff’s Principality Stadium to watch a Wales Six Nations clash, he met the Princess of Wales, who was attending the match with her husband, the Heir to the Throne.

“It was great,” said Simon. “Kate asked how we were and whether we were enjoying our day. She was lovely.” 

Simon attended the game as a member of a group which supports Welsh rugby players who have had to give up playing because of serious injury.

At St Michael’s, he has been a twice-weekly volunteer for almost two years.

“I love coming here. It’s a great atmosphere and everyone is so friendly.”
