A Ross resident has completed his first ever triathlon while raising more than a thousand pounds for his Hospice.
Greg Powell took part in the Newent Triathlon which involved a 400m swim, 18k cycle and 4k run.
The 24-year-old’s plans weren’t helped by a bike problem the day before the event which meant he was forced to complete the cycling section on a mountain bike instead of a racing model.
Greg’s efforts helped him raise around £800 for St Michael’s Hospice in Bartestree, near Hereford. This total was then boosted by a £500 donation from Ross-on-Wye Lions Club.
The Hospice has a special place in Greg’s heart as his mum, Susan, spent just over a month there earlier this year having been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. She has since returned home.
‘I really enjoyed the event despite the bike problem the day before, and I’m glad to have raised funds for St Michael’s,’ said Greg.
Greg’s fundraising was helped by his brother who collected money for St Michael’s from the sidelines while watching Greg’s triathlon challenge.
