Ali's carClub member Alison Turner had splashed out on a 1950s Austin in memory of her parents and her brother Graham who had passed away in 2014. Alison wanted to remember them by creating new, fun-filled memories.

After a chance conversation during a club bike ride, Alison decided to auction a trip to Hay and back in the Austin, complete with a cream tea, to see if she could raise a few pounds for the hospice. Nobody had predicted the bidding to be so fierce, but the trip eventually sold for £90, way above any expectations.

There was another surprise in store. Three club members; James Richards, Seb Wiles and Tac Bartlett, immediately presented the Austin trip to retiring club coach Bill Berry and his wife Marilyn as a thank you for the decades of volunteer time that he has given to the members.

Together with the auction of two strength and conditioning packages generously donated by Ady Watts and a raffle containing presents donated by Chaingang Cycles and Coombes Cycles, the members raised more than five hundred pounds for St Michael’s.

There was so much demand for another chance to have a trip in Alison’s beautiful Austin car that it was immediately decided that the auction should become an annual event.
