The Run
Messy Runner is not a race; in fact, you don’t even have to run. Come along with a smile and an expectation to have fun. You’ll start clean but after finishing the 3K course you’ll be a multi-coloured, messy delight. There is water and a nice treat at the end of the run.
You’ll be guided around the route and through the TEN stations by signage and marshalls. Children should be accompanied at all times, especially as part of the route.

Everything you need to know

- What is the paint, slime and foam made of?
The powder paint is made from natural corn starch and is non-toxic, 100% safe and biodegradable. The dye is food grade tested, and although you can eat it, we strongly advise not to (not least because it won’t be tasty)! - What is the minimum age for children to take part?
We welcome all ages but would strongly recommend that the event might not be suitable for children under 8 years of age. If children younger than 8 are taking part, we’d suggest they wear a face covering to avoid the paint as best they can. - What should we wear?
Wear trainers or secure footwear, but only things you don’t mind getting messy. The paint washes out, but we can’t guarantee it! You’ll get a wristband when you register. We recommend children and those with respiratory issues wear a bandana that can cover their mouth/nose when passing through Paint Stations. Only bring things you don’t mind carrying as there isn’t a baggage area. - How do we get clean afterwards?
There are changing facilities provided by Halo Leisure so you can get changed. If you don’t, we recommend that you leave a towel in your car to cover your seat, or spare clothes to put on top of your running gear to ensure you get as little mess as possible on your seat. St Michael’s Hospice cannot be held responsible for any damage or paint getting on participants, vehicles, public transport or private property. - Can we bring MP3 players, etc?
You can, but St Michael’s Hospice cannot accept responsibility for them. There will be plenty of entertainment throughout the course for you and we’ll have a photographer to upload some bright snaps of the day on Facebook. - What’s on-site?
The main arena is where you’ll find the party; but you might also want to check out some of the other offerings on the day: - Refreshments: We have a refreshments tent serving hot and cold snacks, ice creams and drinks. What’s more, all money raised goes to the event total!
- Merchandise: We’ve got our merchandise tent selling paint, t-shirts, tutus, wigs and more so bring those extra pennies and get wacky!
- Safety measures
If you have a skin allergy or respiratory condition we would recommend that you don’t take part or that you consult your doctor for advice. For little ones, we recommend wearing a mask or bandana and some eye protection just to be on the safe side! - Spectators
Spectators are very welcome to join us. We do advise spectators to keep a good distance from the Paint Stations as we cannot accept responsibility for them accidentally being showered in powder paint.
