When St Michael’s Hospice supporter Jo Ellis takes to the capital’s streets to run the London Marathon later this month, the spirit of her friend and running companion won’t be far away.

Whilst competing in the world’s most famous road race on Sunday 23rd April, Jo will wear a buff worn by Janet Edwards, a much-loved Hospice supporter and member of Wye Valley Runners, who died just over a year ago.

“I just want Jan’s memory to live on,” said Jo, a fellow member of Wye Valley Runners who is running for St Michael’s and SANDS, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity.

“Jan was just so encouraging and meant so much to us all.”

Jan’s family say they are “deeply grateful” to Jo for keeping Jan’s memory alive, and to St Michael’s Hospice for “their amazing work, which has special significance”.

Fittingly, the buff was worn during last year’s London Marathon by Simon Oliver, who also ran the course for St Michael’s, and knew Jan well.

“It was very special wearing the buff last year and I’m so glad Jo will be doing the same this time,” he said.

“Running the London Marathon is such a great experience. I’m so glad I did it. “I’ve told Jo to just make sure she takes it all in because the atmosphere is wonderful, and it’s a day you’ll never forget.”

Jo is also running for SANDS in memory of Kath Brace and baby Otis.
