“Peter, my husband, desperately wanted peace and tranquillity to end his life here on Earth, and this is what St Michael’s Hospice provided, for which I will be eternally grateful.”
Sandra Larreta is full of praise for the care St Michael’s gave her husband, who died here 18 months ago.
To continue supporting us, she signed up to the weekly St Michael’s Hospice Lottery and a few days ago received a call to be told she had won our £1,000 top prize.
“I was just happy playing each week, so to receive the call to say I’d won top prize was wonderful,” said Sandra, who is pictured with Peter on their wedding day 51 years ago.
“I’ve never won anything in my life, and the money will certainly help with my electricity bill!
“I’ve got a such a special place in my heart for St Michael’s. Its location is just incredible. Peter absolutely loved it there – what can you not like about it?! The lovely rooms, the setting, the staff. It all works so well. Everything in our experience of St Michael’s was positive.”
Originally from Hay-on-Wye, Sandra moved to Cardiff when she was 19 but returned to our patch five years ago with Peter when they bought a property in Llangrove. Following his cancer diagnosis, he was given two weeks to live, but lived for 15 weeks.
“I was a cancer specialist in haematology and I like to support a number of cancer services,” added Sandra. “It’s a pleasure to support St Michael’s by playing the St Michael’s Hospice Lottery and I’d encourage others to do the same.”
