For those who win, receiving that call is a special moment. For many though, just knowing they’re supporting St Michael’s is enough.
Janet Auty knows exactly where the money generated by St Michael’s Hospice Lottery players goes having experienced the care provided to her late husband Brian by our Hospice at Home team.
“Brian said he wanted to stay at home, so with the help of the Hospice at Home team, and Marie Curie, that’s what he did,” said Janet, who received a call from our Lottery team to be told she had won our weeky £1,000 jackpot.
“The care we received was fantastic. I couldn’t fault it.”
Janet used to be a manager at Ross Court Care Home, and it was through that position she learnt of the importance of St Michael’s Hospice. Brian, meanwhile, used to support St Michael’s through the freemasons who, over the years, have regularly donated to the Hospice.
“Being at Ross Court made me realise how important the Hospice is to the community, and that feeling was reinforced when I experienced the care given to Brian,” added Janet.
Her dedication to St Michael’s has continued since, and she now volunteers at our Hospice shop on Gloucester Road in Ross-on-Wye.
“I sort all the donations upstairs. I can go whenever I like, and they really appreciate it. Seeing the donations reminds me just how generous people are. It’s amazing how much comes in.
“I think people are just very appreciative of what St Michael’s does.
“I’ve been playing the St Michael’s Hospice Lottery for some time now and it’s great to feel you are supporting a good cause. You never know when you might need that help yourself.”
