Swim as far as you can in a week – either on your own or as a team.

Individually or in a team, we’re asking you to complete as many “kilometres of care” as you can between 12th and 19th February in support of the care staff here at our Hospice. 

What is a Swimathon?

The St Michael’s Swimathon is a swimming event that takes place in pools across Herefordshire and beyond.
It’s a challenge that’s open to everyone, regardless of age and ability.  If you can swim, you can take part! Hundreds of swimmers will be heading down to their local pool between Saturday 12th and Saturday 19th February to complete their challenge, and raise money for us.

Choose a distance to suit you

There’s a distance to suit all abilities. You can choose any distance as an individual, from 400m (16 lengths) to 5K (200 lengths) or, take on your target as part of a team.

Why should I swim for St Michael’s?

St Michael’s Hospice provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Countless St Michael’s doctors and nurses work day and night, here at the Hospice and in peoples homes all over Herefordshire, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most. Most importantly, all free of charge.

As a charity, we need to raise over £5.8 million a year to ensure we can continue to provide our care and support for free. 90% of this funding comes from our local community through donations and fundraising events just like the Swimathon.

It only costs £10 per person (adult or child) to take part in the Swimathon!

Individuals or families of all ages and sizes can take part.

All swimmers can set their own target distance

You can swim entirely in your own time whenever suits you as long as it is between 12th – 19th February. You can also swim wherever you like!

If you don’t have a preferred pool, we’re inviting you to complete your Swimathon with us at Halo Hereford Leisure Pool on Saturday 19th February where we have the main pool booked out just for you.

The St Michael’s Hospice Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Team are able to continue their amazing work with patients because you’re participating in and raising money through your Swimathon.

The Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy teams offer hands-on rehabilitation, symptom management and discharge planning for those patients who are keen to return home. They provide Outpatient Physiotherapy in our gym and also continue to provide support and advice to current patients via telephone. The Fatigue and Breathlessness (FAB) Groups and mobility groups have started back up in-person – keeping people mobile for longer.

Thank you for making sure these essential patient services continue to run free of charge for those in our community that need them most. Thank you!

Set your sponsorship target

Once you’ve got a target in mind, plan what you need to do to get there. 

Use your JustGiving page to tell your friends, family and colleagues about your challenge and why you’re doing it. 

Share your challenge!

You can post news about your training and fundraising activities, keeping everyone up to date with your progress. We also recommend adding any offline donations onto your JustGiving page so you can keep track of your total sponsorship.

If you need help to manage your fundraising on the go, download JustGiving’s app from iTunes or Google Play for free. That way, you’ll be notified whenever someone donates to your fundraising page and be able to read their message of support.
