“I put my name in the ballot for London as a bit of a joke with myself, not expecting to be successful – the odds are something like 40:1 against. In fact, I was so convinced I would not get a place I entered the Manchester Marathon as well which was scheduled 7 days after London… and yes I ran both of them!

“Shortly after I got my London place things got much more serious as my sister-in-law became terminally ill and spent her final weeks in the wonderful care of St Michaels. I dedicated my run to her and opened a fundraising page for St Michaels, the support and encouragement you provided was fantastic. It really helped knowing there were other runners supporting St Michaels, and it was great to meet you and them in person ahead of the race.

“The event itself was very emotional, especially seeing my wife and her family cheering me at mile 18, but also because of the incredible support of the crowds all along the route. I had printed St Michaels and my name on the front of my shirt and must have heard it shouted with encouragement hundreds of times that day. Every time I heard my name I gave a fist pump in thanks and it reminded me who I was running for.”

We’d love you to run for us here at St Michael’s. Every penny raised goes directly towards essential patient care. Thank you and good luck!

Whether this is your first or one-hundred-and-first marathon, we’ll be here to support your fundraising every step of the way.

You can expect:

  • lots of fundraising advice and support
  • regular email contact
  • a branded running vest
  • a photograph and link to your online donation page from our London Marathon website page

If you have your own place already, why not fundraise for us? You will receive the same support from our Events Team as those with a charity place, but you can set your own fundraising target.

You must be at least 18 years.

We are asking runners to raise £2,500 in sponsorship to take part in the London Marathon for us. If you don’t reach that target, we ask you to make up the shortfall.

We are here to support you with your fundraising.

Why run for St Michael’s?

Knowing that you’re raising money for charity can give you a sense of purpose and an even bigger goal to work towards. Supporting a good cause can give you the boost you need to get up and train in the cold, wet winter months – particularly if it’s a charity that’s close to your heart, for example an organisation that’s helped you, or a loved one, through tough times.

We’d love you to run for us here at St Michael’s. Every penny raised goes directly towards essential patient care.
