Hellens Garden Festival and St Michael’s Hospice – a growing friendship
An annual garden festival which has supported St Michael’s since launching 16 years ago has donated its largest ever sum to the Hospice.
Hellens Garden Festival has handed over £17,250 following its two-day spectacular in June which attracted sell-out crowds, some travelling hundreds of miles to be there.
The latest donation means the Festival has donated over around £85,000 to St Michael’s since it launched in 2006.
This year’s event was a bittersweet one for long-time Co-Creative Director Gail Calthrop who has now stood down.
“I would like to thank everyone involved for their generous support over the years which has helped to make the Festival the success that it is now,” said Gail.
“Although I will miss the Festival, I leave it in the inspired, expert and energetic hands of the lovely Hellens Garden Festival Team.”
The Festival takes place at Hellens Manor in Much Marcle.
Alongside the donation to St Michael’s, the Back to the Wild CIC received £5,750.
The theme for this year’s festival was ‘Growing the Future – The Revolution Starts Here’.
Returning speakers included gardening experts Tamsin Westhorpe, Terry Walton, John Cunningham and Hannah Genders.
For the first few years of the Festival, St Michael’s benefitted from the proceeds of a raffle before becoming the beneficiary of the Festival profits, now shared with the Back to the Wild CIC.
This year’s Festival will take place on 10th – 11th June.
