Lottery winner had very special reason to sign up

Our latest Lottery winner only began playing just before lockdown, and had a special reason for joining. ‘My husband, Robert, is an associate vicar at Holmer Church in Hereford and was so impressed by a recent placement at St Michael’s,’ said Melissa Oram. ‘From that moment I knew I wanted to donate to St Michael’s, so when I came across the Lottery I decided to sign up. ‘To receive the call to say I’d won £1,000 was a real shock, but a lovely surprise.’ Robert spent time with the Hospice’s Chaplaincy team, led by Jill Groves, and says he quickly…... Tour de Hereford: Choose your route, choose your distance

Cyclists of all ages and abilities are being invited to become a fundraising tour de force for St Michael’s Hospice. We are asking supporters to let the world’s most famous cycle race inspire them to ride as far as they can between 29thAugust – 20th September. Butterfly spotting at St Michael’s

Summer at St Michael’s means we’re treated to an abundance of wildlife visiting our gardens and grounds. Among them, a wide variety of butterflies enjoy taking advantage of nectar from our plants and flowers. This week, a number of patients have been recording the butterflies they’ve spotted as part of the national Big Butterfly Count. ‘We’re so lucky here at St Michael’s Hospice to have access to such an array of flora and fauna so I’ve been encouraging patients to come outside and enjoy it by participating in butterfly spotting,’ said Occupational Therapist, Kate Stainsby. Lottery winner: It was such lovely news to receive

Each Friday we surprise one lucky Hospice Lottery player by phoning to say they’re £1,000 richer. Tiny heart with a big heart: Postcards from Life returns

An online exhibition showcasing tiny art with a big heart is set to benefit St Michael’s Hospice this autumn. Postcards from Life shines a light on the work of some of the most talented artists in Herefordshire and further afield - and gives you the chance to bid for their work.Almost 200 miniature masterpieces, many created during lockdown including Graham Milsom’s ‘Heroes’ (pictured), will go under the hammer online during a three-week bidding window from the end of October.The invited artists, who include the likes of renowned Herefordshire painter Charles MacCarthy, are given no brief, meaning they are free to…... Open Gardens: Lemore Manor to open its gates for St Michael’s

In a summer where little has looked ‘normal’, one exception has been our gardens. With many people having unexpected time on their hands, plots are looking better than ever, with long daylight hours in which to enjoy them.  In any other year, it would have been the perfect backdrop for the St Michael’s Hospice Open Gardens season. ‘I’ll donate some of it back to you’ – Hospice Lottery winner’s generous pledge

St Michael's Hospice Lottery | Will you get the call? David Robins has been playing the St Michael’s Hospice Lottery for around 20 years. Shoppers return to favourite retail store

Hundreds of shoppers have once again experienced the joy of finding a pre-loved bargain at one of Hereford's favourite retail stores.St Michael's Hospice Whitecross Road Home and Living Store reopened its doors to customers on Monday 13th July after the implementation of safety measures to ensure the store complies with the government's COVID 19 guidelines. These measures include perspex screens at till points, hand sanitiser stations and gloves for customers, restricted customer numbers, social distancing, PPE for staff, additional instore deep cleaning, and the closing of changing rooms. Harriet’s generosity is a cut above

Many of us have been enjoying a long-overdue visit to the barbers this month. Harriet Rogers’ recent cut was extra special though as she had almost 14 inches of hair lopped off for two good causes. Having intentionally grown it for a year, she decided to donate her flowing locks to the Hereford-based Little Princess Trust which provides real-hair wigs to children and young people experiencing hair loss. Her efforts raised £725 which has been split equally between the Trust and St Michael’s, which holds a special place in Harriet’s heart because of the care given to her Grandma by…... Read more

Angel’s lockdown fundraising support vital Hospice care

Mike Pullin BEM and his Hospice Angels have raised almost £600,000 for St Michael's Hospice since 1996, a fantastic achievement which everyone at St Michael's is eternally grateful for. Throughout lockdown, Mike has continued supporting his Hospice raising £30,817 so far in 2020.His latest fundraising has come from auctioning personal possessions and other donated items on Facebook, plus collecting and selling scrap metal.
