Olwyn had been a major driving force alongside Freda Pearce, Jeff Kramer and Richard Miller at the very inception of St Michael’s Hospice and was a huge support over the years.

She received her 35 year Long Service award this year on 29th September, while an In-Patient at the Hospice. She is pictured receiving her award with Stephen Rabbitts, Jo Francis , Elaine Furber and Jean Fisher.

Hospice trustee Dr Jeff Kramer spoke of Olwyn’s can-do attitude for the Hospice: “Olwyn was fantastically energetic with a great basic wisdom. An amazing, formidable lady through her outlook and enthusiasm, she got things done and was always so supportive of the Hospice and the people who worked for it.”

This year she had set up a fund, in part in her son’s memory, to raise money in partnership with Herefordshire Council for the redevelopment of the Hospice.

It was her dying wish that we hold an event which mirrored some of the ethos and spirit of the original fundraising events, stimulating fundraisers for the future in the way that the original Freda Pearce ladies did and engaging those original ladies for one more time. Elaine Furber and Mary Thomas (two original Freda Pearce ladies) are involved in the Christmas Fayre on 22nd November with long-serving staff member Stephen Rabbitts, Council staff, Olwyn’s daughter Debbie, Hospice staff, volunteers and Nicola West, St Michael’s CEO.

Your support at this event on 22nd November at the Shirehall in Hereford from 10am until 5pm in Olwyn’s memory will be welcomed.
