… to provide specialist palliative care

In Herefordshire there are three bodies which provide specialist palliative care - the Hospice, the County Hospital Specialist Care Team and the Community Macmillan Nurses. We meet weekly working together to deliver specialist palliative care, whilst advising and supporting generalist palliative care: - these are the majority of palliative care patients, who are managed by GP's, consultants and district nurses.

We have close working relationships with professionals and specialists in different illness groups, such as heart failure and neurological diseases such as Parkinson's.

We operate a free 24-hour telephone advice line, used by professionals and sometimes the public and provide office space for the Community Macmillan nurses.

We deliver education and training courses through our education department at subsidised rates to anyone involved in palliative care including nurses, doctors, carers and chaplains. It encompasses onsite training in our study centre and bespoke courses in doctor's surgeries, nursing homes and hospitals.

We offer placements to nurses, doctors and other disciplines giving them the opportunity to acquire new skills and gain experience which they can apply in their own situations.
