Date: 16/05/2008HOSPICE GOLF TOURNAMENT GOES WITH A SWING
Twenty-seven teams teed off at the inaugural St Michael’s Hospice Golf Tournament in April, raising an above par total of £2,427 towards the specialist palliative care services provided at the Hospice, accumulated through entry fees, donations, a raffle, a sweepstake and a silent auction.
The overall winners of the tournament were team ‘Bunch of Cheats’ with 86 points (on a count back from 9) followed by the ‘Blue Line Taxis’ team also with 86 points in second place. In third place was the ‘All Sorts’ team (83 points), with team ‘Advantage’ in fourth (82 points) and fifth place finishers were ‘ABC Print 1’ with 81 points. 1st place prizes were golf bags plus a team trophy, 2nd prize was a set of waterproofs each, 3rd prize winners were given fleeces and 4th place prizes were sweaters, with the prizes for 5th place being polo shirts and holdalls.
Richard Hemming PGA, of Belmont Lodge & Golf, organised a competition on the 10th hole, offering players the chance to win a set of customised clubs. Susan Price was the lucky draw winner, giving a whooping cheer when her name was pulled out of the hat. Susan (of ‘Rivermeadow Golf Club’ team) said: “Although we came last, we had a lovely day!”
Other prize winners were: Andy Brace of team ‘Advantage’ (nearest the pin, second shot on the 18th hole); and Shaun Goodwin from the team ‘ABC Print 1’ (longest drive on the 17th hole).
All entrants, some from as far as Woking, said how much fun they had on what was an enjoyable course and that they would gladly take part in a St Michael’s Hospice Golf Tournament again. The golfing community of Herefordshire (and beyond) generously gave to the Hospice enabling St Michael’s to continue providing specialist palliative care to patients and support for their families, friends and carers.
Special thanks go to the businesses that have supported this event: ABC Print, Amros Promotions, Belmont Lodge & Golf, Bengry’s Mazda and Stirling Suzuki, plus all the volunteers on the day and the individuals and organisations who donated prizes to the silent auction.
