Hereford Half Marathon 2010 - Results

Date: 16/05/2010

The annual St Michael’s Hospice Hereford Half Marathon saw a field of almost 800 runners take to the county’s roads on Sunday 16th May.  28 year old Jonathan Pugh from Builth & District won the race in 1 hour 14 minutes and 51 seconds.  Declaring himself to be a “cross country runner” this was the one of the first road races he had entered.  Steve Davies from Swansea Harriers came second in 1:15:13 followed by local lad Luke Mason, from the Wye Valley Runners in third with a time of 1:16:09. Despite the great running performances, the course record of 1:08:57 set by Haggy Chepwony in 2006 still stands.

It was a good day for Wye Valley Runners as Claire Conway was the first lady home with a time of 1 hour 29 minutes and 21 seconds followed by Kim Drinkwater from Mitcheldean in 1:30:30 and Luned Jones from Abergavenny in 1:36:32.   Team “J” from Hereford won the relay half marathon with father and daughter Peter and Amy Carwardine achieving a time of 1 hour 30 minutes and 27 seconds.

The organisers were relieved that, this year, the weather held which was good news for the hundreds of people who turned out to cheer the runners on.  Events Manager Katie Farmer said “ …we are absolutely delighted with the size of the field this year.  The Hereford Half is a popular race and today proved that; the support has been fantastic and we are very grateful. This event is one of our major fundraisers of the year; with more than £3 milllion to raise every penny really does count.”

The runner with the furthest distance to travel was Tim Byram, who came all the way from Maryland, USA, to visit his mother and run our Half Marathon.  Smashing their predicted time by half an hour, wheelchair-user Elliot Evans and his pusher-for-the-day, Richie Bamford, completed the course in 1:58:44 and 1:58:45 respectively!

The Hospice would particularly like to thank Kings Acre Cars for sponsoring the Fun Run, Mark Edwards and the team from Sunshine FM for keeping everyone entertained, the massage team from The Royal National College for the Blind, all the course marshals, the time keepers, Stirling Suzuki, Hereford Leisure Centre, ABC Print, M&M Direct and everyone that supported this event.
