The weather proved beneficial to runners for the 2008 St Michael’s Hospice Half Marathon and Fun Run. More than 630 people ran raising invaluable funds for the Hospice. Matthew James from Hereford Couriers Club led a field of 305 individual runners to finish first in a time of 1:18:09. Matthew received a golden running shoe trophy, plus a voucher for M&M Direct.
It was a good day for local runners, with the first five to cross the line all belonging to Herefordshire running clubs. Stacey Morgan came in second for Croft Ambrey with a time of 01:19:58, followed by William Lloyd (Hereford Couriers) in at 01:20:57. Nicki Bradford, not affiliated to any club, was the first female to cross the line in a time of 01:30:08.
Beating the other 19 relay teams running on the day ‘Beds & Mattresses Direct’ came in with a time of 1:26:20. Team members were Rhys Park, Anisley Park, Pete Gilbert, and Dan King.
287 men, women and children (plus a few dogs!) ran, walked or were pushed around the mile and a half lap of Hereford racecourse. 15 year old Callum James crossed the line first in 8 minutes and 51 seconds. In second place, Clara Evans (14) was also the first girl across in 8 minutes 58 seconds.
St Michael’s Hospice would like to thank everyone who helped make the day such a success, in particular, Hereford Leisure Centre, Sunshine FM Radio for the live outside broadcast, Beds & Mattresses Direct, Hereford Admag, ABC Print, M&M Direct, Debbie Paterson for the warm-up, the team of masseurs and all the Round Table volunteer marshals.
